Ariel Pink is a strange dude. I admittedly love weird lo-fi music (I’m really not a hipster elitist – I promise), so of course I’m a fan of Ariel Pink and his Haunted Graffiti.
Here’s a video for one of my personal favorite Ariel Pink tracks – Politely Declined. Everything about this is crazy and hilarious. From the parrot shirt, to the mustache, to the reactions of the fair goers. It’s just a weird and trippy adventure. I pretty much felt like I had done acid the first time that I watched this.
The song itself is great. The melody is extremely catchy, and the recording quality is just crappy enough to fit the song. It instantly starts and is probably at its best over the first minute. The strange interlude is a little lacking and the verse sort of breaks down at the end – but, that’s what lo-fi is all about. Fucking around and toying with the potential of brilliance. That’s what makes Ariel Pink a genius.
