I think anyone with their finger on the pulse of mainstream indie music (that sounds really weird to say) has heard “My Girls” from Animal Collective. It’s kind of their defining song. It was the peak of their peak, written by the buzz-worthy in his own right Panda Bear for their Merriweather Post Pavilion album. It’s a catchy tune that really grows on you over time. As with any song that packs the kind of acclaim and buzz that this song does, there are hordes of remixes and “guy/gal playing a guitar in front of a webcam for Youtube” type covers. There’s even a wedding performance of this song. I was actually tempted to post that on here, but the part of me that hates cheesy choreographed wedding performances violently murdered that idea. Well – there’s a guy that goes by the name of Gigamesh (isn’t that a Final Fantasy villian?) that does an excellent remix of this song on Youtube. Check it out here:
